Ages 4-6

SHETLAND 6U™ LEAGUE is an instructional league to teach four, five and six-year-old players the fundamentals of baseball and softball by the simplest method possible - letting them play the game. Emphasis is on instruction, not on the league championship.  SHETLAND 6U™ LEAGUE coaches are allowed on the field to offer instruction during the game. The rules require that players be given the opportunity to try different positions, and that all of them get to play in every game.

  • A safety/reduced-injury-factor (RIF) ball is used.
  • Bases are 50 feet apart, and there are no leads and no steals.
  • Teams are formed by the league (no draft).
  • Players can expect one practice a week and games on the weekend.
  • An all-star team (traveling) may be selected at the end of the season.
